There's no reason to edit the main ar files.

For one thing, you'd have to distribute the entire file to give anyone your mod.

And for another, it's a lot easier to just make an addon .ar that re ...

How far does the progress bar get before it crashes? To some extent you can say what is causing the crash by that (I believe GUI loads at about 1/6, and cars are loaded around 1/3)
