You didn't have to write a book, fre_ber. Wink

I understand that some cars have similarity and co-existence problems but the filenames CAN become ridiculous, right?

That's the only point I'm trying to bring up here.

So what, if they are ridicilous? What harm does that do to anyone?

I have a proposition.

When mm3 is released for pc how about creating a new file naming standard (similar to this but suiting the new file formats) and make it compulsory all new cars made for mm3 if they want to be hosted by mm2c.

Its only a suggestion.

OT: did the file format (eg pkg for models) change between mm1 and mm2 and is it likely to change for mm3. Ie would a new filter etc have to be made and worked out?

Yes a new filter would have to be made to suit MM3. If were lucky it will be incoporated in ZMod2

MM1's format has basically never really been cracked, since there's a program that converts text files to the models it uses. So unless someone includes that text file in the .ar (which is also a different format, by the way), there's no way to convert the car.

If we're lucky, DICE will release some sort of carmaking helper program like the VCK that Angel Studios released for MM1. The mesh protection offered by the VCK program is terrific...the game's been out, what, four years now I think, and no one has reverse-engineered it yet.

If we're REALLY lucky DICE might give Oleg a MM3 filter, but I think that is pushing our luck a little too far Razz

Pffff....
Chances of that are like, nothing. How talking to them really nicely, and showing the strong community backing this up?

I would think any sort of filters for any program would probably be a help to Oleg, since it would at the very least give him something to start with. Even so I wouldn't think he would have a problem getting some sort of filter working...look at all he's done so far (as well as other people)...consider that AS gave us absolutely nothing in the way of editing tools for MM2 and look at all we know now.

FYI, updated some posts to change "legographics" to "turbogfx" because of the domain name change that happened about a year ago. heh.

Proposal for ammendment:
The current standard is too specific in its wording with regards to 'reflections' and similar;
It should instead read "Anything that replaces something default in the game that has a visual or gameplay related impact outside the scope of your creation".

I agree, and that is also a short, concise and catchy alternative. Wink
