Thanks for the tip ITN. I'll try that to fix the normals later on. I have to be careful with detaching because I did it in one spot where there was no definite edge (a relatively flat area) and it really broke up the flow. There's a patch there now that reflects light strangely compared to the polies around it. I need to reverse that somehow. Do I just "uniteselect" the verticies that were wrongly detached and recalculate normals?
Also, while I'm fiddling with the tuning (getting much better now) and custom sounds, I was hoping you could answer another question for me. I am thinking about the dash and after reading Stereo's tutorial: http://forum.mm2c.com/viewtopic.php?t=8563&highlight=dashboard
I just need clarification on this "center at 0,0" thing. Is this the placement of needles, dash etc. in Zmodler using those coordinate numbers at the bottom of the program window? So they all just stack on top of each other at 0,0 in the 'back' view correct?
Also, I have the explorer sport .ar opened up (made by Fuel and Kwalty Steve - my favorite MM2 vehicle btw:)) to look at the dash stuff as an example only. They had 3 images: left, center, and right and all three are mean't to fit together in game. Was this done just to keep the texture size down ie: 512x512 vs 1024x1024? I can do it with as many textures as I want right? Thanks guys. _________________

For the incorrectly detached vertices, yea just unite them again....just like when you unite the two halves of car and the edges/vertices in the middle.
Theres a much easier way of making dashes than what Stereo showed ages ago. A great tutorial about dash-making has been made recently by VW-Tuner-Oburg. Download it here.
Good luck with the rest of the car. _________________

Update: Got a new texture for the tube steps. I *think* it looks like chrome now. I'm still not completely satisfied but it will do for now...enough time wasted on that
Also, after a lot of fiddling with textures and needles trying to get them to look right in game, I have put together my very first dashboard. The textures don't quite come out as sharp in-game (color blending isn't as smooth either) compared to the photoshop versions but perhaps that's the best the game/my graphics card will do. I also shrunk the pic to post it on here so it's not too wide.
I got the speedometer calibrated within 1-2 mph which is a plus The main units are km/h but you can still roughly see the 20, 40, 60...etc mph markings. I wasn't too sure what to do with the gear indicator but kinda like how it came out. Just color matched the numbers/letters to the display immediately to the left. I kept them bigger on purpose so that they can actually be seen. Onward now to some more fine tuning.

That's actually one of the best dashes I've seen great job on it! And I like the colour of the numbers/lettering, looks really cool.
And I think that's a good chrome texture for the side step. I wouldn't waste any more time on it if i were you _________________

Awesome first dashboard. Much better than mine. Yea, dont worry about the loss of quality, theres nothing you can do about it.
The chrome on the steps looks great too. Perfect! _________________

Very good first dashboard, just make match more the color tones of the steering wheel with the rest of the dashboard. Nice chrome tubes. _________________ Fiat 500 = Italian motorization.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I know exactly what you're saying Franch88, I'm not a fan of the way the colour blended together. It was a struggle with my camera (not the best by any stretch) between getting enough light so the dash wasn't too dark and getting an even colour flow. Not to mention the sun was going behind clouds and then coming back out again. I will show this with an example:
1) Darker image with better colour flow but perhaps too dark to use:
2) The base pic I started with (lighter but bluish colours show too much):
3) As in Photoshop:
With a better camera, it probably would have been better, but oh well, it's going to stay that way now.
I'm going to give the custom engine sounds one more shot but if it doesn't sound right to me, I'm going to give that up and just use the sounds I extracted from the game files. Right now it's using the 68' mustang for idle and low and the LTV sounds for mid and high tones and sounds not half bad this way. _________________
