Post subject: Blurry textures Reply with quote

Hi all

I'm making a car but I have problems with my textures. I made them 256x256 pixels and ingame they look blurred. I only have this problem on the front, rear and top texture. Not on the side texture. The side texture has another size (512x256) and it seems that i can only use landscape size textures on my car, than there is no blurring visible on any side. I also tried making the side texture 256x256, so that all textures are squares but that made the side texture look blurred too.

I wonder why I have this problem because I didn't have problems with it before.

OK here you go.

Two ZModeler pictures and two in MM2. In the last MM2 picture you can see the blurring appear on the front and the front window, the side texture is displayed sharp. Also the blurring is only visible when I zoom out as visible in the MM2 screenshots.

That is probably because bigger textures mean that it looks better in-game (higher resolution). But, that doesn't mean if you say have a 1024x1024 texture and cram everything onto it that it'll look good, because it means each thing on the texture needs to be smaller to fit. If, for example, you have the sides on a 512x512, the front on another 512x512, and the back on another 512x512, then it means each part can be as big as the texture is. But if you put all of them on the same texture, then like I said, they will have to be smaller and therefore the game might need to enlarge it onto the car to fit. In terms of quality, a big texture that is made smaller to fit on the part of a car is far better than a small texture that is made bigger to fill the whole part of the car.

Yeah, that looks pretty normal to me. Also nice-looking car! Smile
