Since more people visit the Soapbox than News & Announcements, I wanted to share the following information with you here.

If you were visiting the forums within the past 15 minutes, you might have noticed the disappearance of 100.000 posts followed by Debugging and Error screens generated by phpBB.

This was all my fault and a completely noob one at that too. During local development I imported a MM2C forum backup from today (this morning) to the local host. I logged in with the intention to prune the database back to 1%, because I really don't need all of the information. Unfortunately, I did not notice that the local installation of the forum forwarded me to the production installation (that is this one), where I began to do the pruning resulting in the aforementioned loss of posts. I like history, so I decided to restore a backup from today (12/13/2007) and take losing activity in the last 13 hours for granted.

I am really sorry for the inconvenience, but it happened and there's no going back. Let's make the best of it and I'll make sure it'll never happen again.

It's OK. It seems that no harm was done really.

Bad luck, but as HummersRock said, there wasn't a lot of harm done Smile

Damn nub.... just kidding

Don't worry mate. Everyone makes mistakes. You were lucky enough and managed your system so efficiently that you were successful in restoring a near perfect copy. Some webmasters would have had to sit in shame and suffer from actually losing more posts without being able to do anything about it. Good work. Thumbs Up

Thanks. I learned a lot with three consecutive HDD crashes in the first three years, so the backup process of the databases (including off-site) is pretty smooth now.

Would be pointless at this stage considering the low activity.

Also there would be quite a few modifications that would need to be made, which isn't worth it if you ask me...if it ain't broken, why fix it.
