You can't have legally singed the contract. You can't sign any type of contract until you are 18 over here.

Yes, since I'm not 18 I could not sign up myself at all. So I had my mom sign up for me. Wink

you mean sign a real contract...hahahaha ...that doesn't make sense. When you enter into hosting agreements, yes you sign a contract.. a digital one, but I believe you prepay for whatever period of hosting. I think you could stop but some charges would apply. Nonetheless you still have the opportunity to buy a new host and switch to it so bringing up the contract talk is a waste of time.

Also, the dedicated server costs $79/month. Given the current Dollar - Euro exchange ratio, that's not a whole lot anymore. The ads break even these days and sometimes I need to chip in a bit.

As for the bandwidth, I meant we have about 1TB available. We don't use as much as that. Not even near it.

I'm perfectly comfortable with where we are. It might not be obvious to you guys, but there are about 10 more sites running on this server.

Wow

Wow

$79 a month. Flaming hell, that is pretty exspensive. And people just come on here and take the píss all the time (No snide comments please).

Rounded to 2DP, $79 --> £39.90

What, you expect a high speed decent dedicated server to be cheap?

$79 a month is dirt cheap for an unmanaged dedicated server. And with the current Euro/USD course it's not that expensive. Don't worry. We'll be around for a long time Smile

2 questions:

- did it come with a control panel installed?
- did it come with Apache and MySQL installed?

A managed server can easily run into two to three hundred US dollars (or way more) a month, depending on your hardware and service level requirements.

Just a free installation of Webmin, but I prefer SSH anyway.

Edit: Ah, second question Wink

We started out with Red Hat 7.2 on the server, briefly had Fedora Core 2, but we're running on CentOS{/url] now. I don't know whether CentOS comes with Apache and MySQL pre-installed (although I would assume so), but the image our server provider --[url=http://www.serverbeach.com]ServerBeach uses did have almost all necessary tools for a dedicated web- and database server installed.

yo gotta remember this is dedicated ...not shared.

the reasons shared servers are cheap:

- many sites hosted on one server machine
- control panel software is massed licensed
