Post subject: Opening MM2 ar file Reply with quote

Hey

For those who don't know I'm creating a police Vauxhall Vectra and was just wondering how I open the MM2 main ar files so when Im done I can add it as a replacement for the default car.

I am also interested in changing the paint job on the current police car to make it more up to date, anyone know what program I need?

Cheers

Chris

There's no reason to edit the main ar files.

For one thing, you'd have to distribute the entire file to give anyone your mod.

And for another, it's a lot easier to just make an addon .ar that replaces default files, because MM2 reads the ars in alphabetical order and ignores duplicate files.

The best way to replace the default police is to edit the city aimap files which list the locations and vehicles of the city police, so it uses your custom vehicle.
One problem I've found with this is that I'm not sure how to define specific paintjobs like the default cops have, whenever I added vehicles it was randomly choosing from all the paintjobs.

You don't have to edit the default textures. All you have to do is make an add-on .ar file and make sure the new paintjob you want has the same texture name as the default one in mm2tex.ar .
I'm sure somebody can explain this much, much better and in more detail.
