Post subject: [TCHET] How to do a race with checkpoint editor Reply with quote

Why this tutorial?

MM2 is created for driving races in SF or London. Now some people ask, how to do a simple rave in your map? I will tell you

how. We will make a simple circuit race for simple city.

1. Download checkpoint editor

Download it from here: http://midtownmadness2.de/downloads/download/checkpoint.zip

2. A circuit race

Run checkpoint editor and ZModeler 1.07. Open simple city in ZModeler.
Go on the "X" with the mouse there in the middle of the top view. Here red.

That's the point 0,000000 0,000000 0,000000. You can look at the bottom of ZModeler, where you are.

Now go back to the checkpoint editor and wrote in these three boxes "0" down. Then click "Nächster Checkpoint" and then

you set the start at the point 0,000000 0,000000 0,000000.

Now we set 3 checkpoints. So it will be a very little race. No we place the checkpoints on the road on the left. The red circles

are the positions where the checkpoints will be.

We place first checkpoint on the top of the road. This is the position: -35,0262 0,0000 -60,5555.
Go back to the checkpoint editor and type in the boxes: x:-35,0262 y:0 z:-60,555 and then klick on the arrow which points to

the left. Then klick on "Nächster Checkpoint" again. Here all with colors.

Now the next checkpoint. The position is -113,6332 0,0000 0,0000. Type in the boxes in checkpoint editor this in: x:-113,6332

y:0 z:0 and klick on the arrow which points down. Klick on "Nächster Checkpoint" again.
Again all in colors.

Now the last checkpoint. Position: -35,0262 0,0000 51,7530. Type in: x:-35,0262 y:0 z:51,7530 and click on the arrow which

points to the right. All in color again.

Now click on "Speichern". I means in english "save". Save it as "circuit0waypoints.csv" into your simple city

folder/race/simple_city/. Now close checkpoint editor. Open DeAR2 and extract the mm2core.ar. Go then into your extractet

mm2core.ar in the /race/sf -folder and copy these things in your race/simple_city folder:

- "circuit0.aimap"
- "circuit0.aimap_p"
- "circuit0.pathset"
- "circuit0-a-0.opp"
- "circuit0-a-1.opp"
- "circuit0a-2.opp"
- "circuit0-a-3.opp"
- "mmcircuitdata.csv"
- "circuit0-p-0.opp"
- "circuit0-p-1.opp"
- "circuit0-p-2.opp"
- "circuit0-p-3.opp"

Open simple_city.cinfo. You find that in the tune folder. And change there these things:

CircuitCount=1
CircuitNames=Testcircuit

It looks like this:

Edit: 3. Opponents

Open "circuit0.aimap" with notepad. There you see at the bottom the category [Opponent] Then you see the opponents names, positions where they start and rotation...

Code:
vpbug race0-a-0.opp 0.70 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000
vpbug circuit0-a-0.opp 0.71 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000
vpbug circuit0-a-1.opp 0.71 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000
vpbug circuit0-a-2.opp 0.74 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000
vpbug circuit0-a-3.opp 0.75 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000
vpbug circuit0-a-4.opp 0.72 0 50.000000 0.700000 1 1 1 1 0 1.000000

"vpbug" is the beatle. "race0-a-1.opp, race0-a-1.opp, ..." are the opponents files. "0,73, 0,71, ..." Don't know what that means. Then the positions and rotation, speed, etc.

Now we change it. We delete 4 players, because the road is too small. We've got now 2 opponents. We write

"vpbug circuit0-a-1.opp 0.71 0 10.000000 0.000000 1 1 1 1 0 0.000000"
"vpbug circuit0-a-2.opp 0.74 0 -10.000000 0.000000 1 1 1 1 0 0.000000"

Delete the circuit0.aimap_p file and copy the circuit0.aimap file and name it circuit0.aimap_p.
4. Test in game

Pack all folders in a zip archive and name it to simple_city.ar and play. There should be the race in game. Here is a pic of the
race:

Make pics when you drive the race Wink .
And if you can't understand something, tell me please. I am not so good in English.

Good Luck with races

It's cool. You can make all types of races. Circuit, Checkpoint,... You only must rename the files. race0waypoints.csv is for checkpoint, circuit0waypoints.csv is for circuit races, blitz0waypoint is for the timeraces. Another pic of a checkpoint race in my new city:

But I don't know how to make computer players! Hmm... how can I do these? Maybe these .opp files. I'll try.
