Post subject: Best OS for playing old and new games? |
|
|
I wan't to play new and old games. Does old games work on Vista, and does Vista worth it? I've heared that the compatibility mode make older games work in Vista. I wan't to play older games from 1998-2004, like:
Sim City 3000
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Age of Empires I&II
Zoo Tycoon
Traffic Giant Tycoon
Industry Giant
Midtown Madness 1
...
I think XP is the best OS for playing older games, but if I wan't to play new games, I want to play them with DirectX 10, and that is just for Vista and newer OS. Vista is very compatible and bug-free now, I've heared. I really wan't to install Vista, but my worry is that I can't play my old games.
I have both CD's! Thats hard to decide, because Vista looks great and it provides dualcore, more than XP.
PS. I don't wan't to partition my HDD! |

Did you have Vista, or do you re-installed XP? And if you have Vista, did you try the compatibility-mode? |

I have had the vista home premium since before SP1 And never found a bug.
If someone brings up the wireless and admin loss. The Internet one was caused by the hardware and the admin was my fault. |

I needed a replacement laptop as Vista had corrupted the memory within 1 month of purchase _________________ So it's "Goodnight" from me. And it's "Goodnight" from him. Goodnight! |

I have had this computer since November, it was preloaded onto the machine when bought. I tried compatability mode but it was rare that I could get games older than about 2004 to work. Games such as Midtown Madness 1, Rollercoaster Tycoon (2&3 work ok), and had to make a few modifications to MSTS. |

All of my old games worked on Vista, XP, and Win 7. So choose any of those three. But even though you don't want to do it, I highly recommend setting up a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7. I can give you instructions if you'd like, because that really is your best option. _________________

I think I will install Vista, but I hope I get Windows 7 soon.
One question: Does GTA IV anytime work on Windows 7? Do you think the will make a "GTA IV-Windows 7-install-patch"? |
