Post subject: Quick Reply Reply with quote

Any chance of a quick reply button at the end of a topic?

Ta,

Just press the reply button, surely you're not that impatient.

Not to mention such a utility will help the spammers spam, as if we need more of their gum flapping nonsense.

It'll be quicker. I like speed. And, fair enough.

Bots....

It's much easier for them to use live addys.
If they use a business addy, most forums can block registrations from that easily. A forum is much less likely to block hotmail/live etc.

That said, these days it is much the opposite. But then, captcha and recaptcha goes a long way to fighting spam.

Well Quick Reply isn't the reason bots can spread... the fault would be at the registration process... that's where better bot protection should be implemented. Ermm, there is a phpbb2 mod to allow for Quick Replies btw... and with the number of mods on the forums... I don't see why not... but who cares about this forum anyway... it's not like it's that popular... definitely can wait a few secs for the reply page to load.

When I mentioned spammers, I meant particular members of this forum, not robots.

Speaking of these robots, if they persist, I will temporarily ban Live/Yahoo email address, stopping the robots being able to sign up.

I have limited knowledge about PHPBB2 and all that, but why not just have the captcha as part of the registration process?

Well the creators have successfully made robots to "read" captcha and even recaptcha 2 checks. I liked the ones where you are told to add or subtract something... or make a varying sentences that are written so only humans can make sense of it.

@tim - oh ok... damn those spammers Laughing

Quick reply wouldn't improve my perspective of the forum, it isn't needed and it is irrelevant.
