Post subject: Downloading Help Reply with quote

Hi. I'm making a Midtown Madness 2 website. I need help. I wanna know how to host my own download to my website. I know you could make a link to the download, but what happens if the website that contains the download is gone? (ex: http://pcexhaust.tripod.com/mm_cars/)

Can you help me? Confused

You should be hosting the files yourself, not hot linking (or whatever it's called), as that's rather rude.

I think it's called hotlinking. And, it's illegal unless your hosting files from your own FTP's.

I didn't even know that was illegal. Surprised But I wasn't planning on hotlinking the files anyway. I just realized I COULD have done that, before I found out it was illegal. Embarassed Thanks for telling me! Smile But sorry to waste your guys'es time... Embarassed Sad

Hey wait, I just realized something! Our school hotlinks to other websites. So how is it illegal then if the school I go to does it? Confused

And sorry if I seem to be overreacting over this situation.

Hot-linking isn't illegal, it's just common curtsey not to do it. Some reading.

No I won't let you hotlink from my domain. Wink

Get some form of online storage/ftp/webspace and use that.

Carking appears to be a little misinformed.

Just use a file hosting site like GameFront, Mediafire, megaupload, 4shared, rapidshare, etc.

If you want to create a compelling and easily accessible files site for the MM games you are going to have to pay money for web space. There is no way around it. Free alternatives to hosting will either fall through after a few months or will just consistently suck.

For a cheap reliable web host I recommend Bluehost. It hosts my site, The Midtown Madness Archive, and is a very cheap host that offers consistent up time and virtually unlimited bandwidth and disk space for your account.
